Great post by Jim Sinur on the three main process patterns: basically, integration-centric STP, human-facing transactional, and collaborative. And only 50% gratuitous graphics this time!

Re-establishing the link between information systems and decisions: “We have lost much of the connection between the supply of information and the demand for it in decision-making” by optimizing transactional processes and ignoring strategic decisions.

“Microsoft also plans to inject BPM) eatures into Visio so that charts will not only be able to view processes in real-time, but possibly also able to execute changes in their workflow.” Not sure exactly what this means, but worth watching.
