John, I think that the bigger concern is that Lombardi's product strengths are lost in the vast portfolio of IBM products, or that the nonsensical "departmental" marketing message means that the IBM sales force doesn't consider this a contender for enterprise sales.

Let's just say that I've already filled out my direct deposit form for IBM :-)

Some folks seem pretty spooked, worried that Business folks are going to get shut out of the development cycle because Lombardi and Savvion have both been acquired by companies that are well known for their SOA prowess... I just don't see that happening.

What I see is more of a win-win - IT gets "a single throat to choke" and Business gets tools from vendors who have the resources to push the envelope. Imagine the Teamworks/Blueprint mashup that Lombardi could have built by now if pockets had been deeper.

Tim, that would be great for all involved -- there's no benefit to dragging this out, although traditionally there can be quite a bit of time between when IBM announces an acquisition and when it closes.

Actually, the Lombardi/IBM deal should close sometime in the next week or two.

Sandy, excellent analysis on both the Savvion and Lombardi acquisitions. I actually had thought Savvion would have been picked-up a few years ago but it now happened. Again, thanks for your great article.

Sorry, I assumed that if they got me out of bed early for a 7:30am call, they had already briefed all of you who are 5 times zones to the east!

Thanks for the link Sandy! Just for the record though I didn't have the benefit of a briefing... my analysis was from the news release only. Hoping to get a briefing soon..
