Simon, I think that they're both pretty low still, since they haven't been around that long. Software AG was talking last week about how they have 50,000 members on the ARIS community site, but that's a site for ARIS users, not the same as the ARISalign.

Hi sandy, i've had a look at the IBM blueworks site and Arisalign both provide interesting environments for collaborative process modelling. Is anyone actually using them? There is a very low volume of messages on their respective forums. Any thoughts

Hi Eric, thanks for your comment. We likely need to wait for demand and adoption to catch up to the existing product collaboration features before there is a need for a lot more. I gave my first presentation on social BPM over four years ago, where I predicted a lot of the existing functionality; in a presentation that I gave earlier this year, as well as a couple of papers that I have written recently, I talk more about the runtime collaboration aspects. Collaborative modeling is great, but that's only a relatively small subset of the participants. If you want to truly introduce social and collaboration features, they need to be in the runtime as well. We're starting to see some of this in ACM products that allow a process participant to add new participants as well as define their own processes/tasks, but this also needs to push further into the more structured BPM products that are the mainstay of many back-office transaction processing operations in order to capture and exploit some of the tribal knowledge from the workforce.

Interesting post, and news from Metastorm. I agree with your comment about this market being somewhat less than mature; I am looking forward to more integrate-able cloud based systems. I've noticed myself that collaborative features such as the ones mentioned are becoming strong key success factors for these players. Much of the collaborative value intrinsic in the cloud has fostered a need for a common dialect between such parties. As you say, there products for three personas will likely be consolidated. It seems as though we are getting closer to our three personas working in one realm. In any case, thanks for the post. How do think these product features will continue to evolve?
